The word of God is beneficial for our neighbors when they see that we are putting into practice what we’ve been taught. In society, you see many people with bible verses tattooed on their bodies or in their instagram bios but do they reflect the commandments given to us? The big idea that my pastor gave our congregation this morning is “When we hear, we become responsible.”

In Matthew 7: 24-27, Jesus gives us the parable of the wise and the foolish builder. He explains that there are two builders, one who builds their foundation on a rock and the other who builds their foundation on sand. The reason he uses construction as an example is because this is something we see in every day life. The way something is built determines its ability to stand firm. The builder who built his house on a rock was able to withstand the natural storms that come from life but the others home fell with great crash. Who do you think was the wise builder? Both builders heard the word of God but only one put into practice. It is our responsibility to do what God has commanded. The grace of God gives us the patience and the trust to be obedient Him.

Following this parable, we were led to James 1:22-25. James writes not to merely listen to the Word or we’d be deceived but to do what it says. James advises us to be intentional with following the perfect law.

In conclusion, we have the responsibility to build our house on the word of God so that we would have everlasting life. God gave us the equipment to stand firm here on earth. It is our job to use those supplies and to ask Him for more when needed!
