Genesis 3:14-15
Gretchen Martin goes over Genesis 3:14-15 for day three of her devotional, Stand Firm. I loved it. My soul felt intense gratitude from understanding the mercy the Lord has for us. God knew Adam and Eves disobedience was going to take place so He already decided that He was going to sacrifice Himself for us. Knowing this helps me understand how valuable I am in Gods eyes. My relationship with Him is so important to Him that He already planned to send Jesus Christ to die for all my sins. He feels the same way about you and I pray that you know this core truth.
God begins his punishment with cursing the serpent who led his children away from him. “So the Lord God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.’” There is absolutely no chance of redemption for the serpent. When the enemy tempts you to sin, it knows that it can’t get any worse for the serpent, so it tries to bring as many souls down with it. Don’t lose your life to something that doesn’t value you.
Then God says, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel.” I learned that this foreshadowing of Jesus is called protoevangelium, meaning the first gospel. God already told the serpent it lost the battle when He mentioned that Jesus would come and crush its head.
When sin entered the world we were condemned to death. Except God gave us a way to experience life again when he sent his one and only Son. We have a living Savior, and He waits patiently for us to run to Him.
Oh my heavenly Father, you’ve given us a chance to know you. You’ve provided us with a Savior. Your Love for us is stronger than we could ever reciprocate. I just thank you - for taking my life into consideration and giving me a chance to understand what real love is. Amen.
