Humility

One of my favorite character traits to look out for in believers is their humility. I see Jesus so clearly in them. 1 Peter 5:6, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under Gods mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”
Culture has a heavy influence on our achievements and we grow this dangerous desire for human approval over the approval of our Lord and Savior. It is natural for us to want to feel seen. God created us to be holy and blameless and this world is far from it. We recognize how set apart we’ve become and selfishly take the glory from our Creator. I struggled with this a lot in the gym environment. My discipline with my consistency and diet started to reveal noticeable changes with my body. I posted my lifts using secular music, sometimes slapping a bible verse thinking that’d be enough recognition for the Lord. I received this instant gratification from all the likes I was getting from strangers. The Holy Spirit convicted me loudly and killed this desire to seek worldly validation. With this conviction, I started to shamefully judge fitness creators who were doing the same thing. I ignored the log I once had in my eye and negatively viewed their content. The Holy Spirit has poured a lot of grace into me and took captive those negative opinions.
God has placed so many true believers in my life who are doers of the word. They’ve become my new influence to become more like Jesus. One of my dearest friends, Debbie, quotes this often, “Everyone has a God sized hole in their heart, looking for something to fill it.” We all need to be reminded that what we’re looking for can only come from God Himself. He has led me into a community full of servants who gladly serve Him and I see Christ so clearly in them. I love how God has used my community to strengthen my character and allow me to grow in humility.
Humility comes straight from serving the Lord. Dedicate a secret place for just you and the Lord. Let him renew your heart and feed this desire of giving Him all the glory. He will protect your heart and mind once you surrender it to Him. The enemy will try to get in your head because it doesn’t want you to put God above yourselves or place others before you. Don’t let the enemy master your mind. The Holy Spirit has the power satan will never be able to touch. God has given us a life filled with commandments that will defeat the enemy. Let us make heaven crowded again and serve this earth with humility, becoming more like Jesus daily.
Heavenly Father, teach me to be more like Jesus with a serving heart. Pour into me the kindness, compassion and humility that this world needs and lead me to the people in my life who thirst for it. Use me, but take me out of the glory and let the world see You in everything I do. I love you forever. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
