The gym can be a very dangerous place for a child of God. The spirit of pride lingering off of unbelievers surrounding you. The way of guarding your heart from these demonic spirits is to ask the Lord for discernment.

I have been going to my local gym on and off for about five years. I wasn’t saved when I first started working out so I was the definition of the jezebel spirit. Walking around in sports bras and small shorts, taking provocative pictures and tempting those around me. It is so embarrassing thinking back on the humiliation I put myself through. Fast forward to now, God has renewed my mind completely. Praise God!! In the process of renewing my mind the Holy Spirit has made my body into a heavenly home. Paul writes in Ephesians 2:22, “And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.”

Here at my gym they do member of the month shoutout for the community. I’ve never been asked to appear on it which makes me glad. I have this desire to stay reserved and limit myself from as much attention as possible from the world. However, I questioned myself on how I would give all the glory to God if given the opportunity. Here is what I would say;

The Holy Spirit has molded me into becoming a servant of the Lord. Voluntary adversity has been a form of dying to my flesh daily. Having the mobility to choose discomfort is such a blessing from God that allows lasting growth. Spiritual, mental and physical health are all important things that need to be intentionally focused on with Christ in the center.

My advice would be to kill the vanity that stems from the gym. Recognize that the body you are working on was given to you by our Creator. The most beneficial thing you could do is give it back to the Lord and allow him to use it to reach others in a loving way.

A great verse regarding physical training is in 1 Timothy 4:8, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the future life to come.” Working on your health is a great thing but is only beneficial when it produces godliness.

I am so in love with the work the Spirit has done with me. He often leads me to reflect on the goodness and mercy He has shown me which leaves my renewed heart in a constant state of gratitude.
